Daddy Says No
Daddy is unfair most of the time. All I want to do is play. Daddy says no.
I want to walk across the glass coffee table but Daddy says no. I want to jump off my bed and make the floor boards bang and the lights hanging from the ceiling downstairs shake but Daddy says no.
I want to play at lunch time but Daddy says no. He tells me if I keep being silly, I can’t watch TV and I tell him no.
Sometimes I don’t listen because what he says is boring. He counts to five when he gets to four I do what he says. I thought he was bluffing but he really wasn’t. I don’t tell him that is how I learnt to count.
Sometimes when Daddy says no, I cry because Mummy will say yes and tell Daddy off. But Mummy says no too. Then I smile and give Mummy kisses. I can see she thinking about saying yes. Just a few more kisses and I can win. Daddy looks at Mummy and rolls his eyes. Mummy looks at Daddy and sighs then says no. Damn you Daddy I nearly got Mummy onside.
I want to go outside on my scooter in the rain. Daddy says yes. Mummy says no. Daddy says it isn’t raining much but Mummy says no. Why is Mummy always saying yes to me but always says no to Daddy. We’re both men. I guess Daddy doesn’t have my charm.
Daddy takes me to bed. He says I’m tired. I say no. If I don’t go to bed there will be no bedtime stories, he says. He counts to five. No bedtime stories. He cleans my teeth and puts my pyjamas on. I want stories. Daddy says ok. I win.
